Multilingual Translation Checkers

The Translation Division of RWS Group now has immediate vacancies at its Head Office in Buckinghamshire for high-calibre graduate linguists with:

• English mother tongue and excellent German or French, preferably combined with another language, ideally Chinese, Dutch, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Spanish or Swedish, or
• English mother tongue and excellent Korean, which must be combined with Japanese, or
• French mother tongue and excellent English, preferably combined with another language.

As part of an international team of approximately fifty checkers, your work will involve word-by-word checking of translations prepared by in-house and external technical staff and sometimes adapting existing translations to conform to new versions of foreign documents.

Recruits who demonstrate their ability could be offered the opportunity to progress to trainee translator status, involving further technical study, and then to full translator status or alternatively to administrative functions within the company, many of these openings being filled internally.

Applicants must have degree-level qualifications, excellent language skills, well-developed critical faculties and good powers of concentration.

Starting salary is £19,000 pa. Additional benefits include non-contributory pension scheme, private medical insurance and childcare vouchers.

Scientific & Engineering Translators

Our patent translation division, based in Gerrards Cross, requires additional high calibre graduate Scientists and Engineers to train as professional STAFF TRANSLATORS. You must have:

English mother tongue, excellent knowledge of German and at least a degree level qualification in biochemistry or mechanical engineering

OR

English mother tongue, excellent knowledge of French and at least a degree level qualification in physics

OR

French mother tongue, excellent knowledge of English and German and at least a degree level qualification in engineering

OR

Russian mother tongue, excellent knowledge of English and at least a degree level qualification in chemistry.

Audio Typist

From time to time we have vacancies in Gerrards Cross for full-time or part-time Audio Typists with English, French or German mother tongue (a minimum of 30 hours per week is required for the part-time option).

The work involves the transcription of texts from audio tapes/digital files, correction of amended versions and production of final printed documents of the highest quality, and requires speed, precision, sound basic spelling and a sharp eye for detail. Microsoft Word skills are essential and candidates must love typing!

Finishing and Dispatch Clerks

From time to time we have vacancies in our busy Finishing Department for full-time Translation Assistants.

The work entails final proofreading of corrected translations, insertion of diagrams, tables, etc., preparation of certificates and dispatch. You must be educated to ‘A’ level standard in at least one European language (preferably French or German), have basic keyboard skills, an interest in word processing and the ability to work as a member of a team under the pressure of tight deadlines.

Graduate Scientists/Engineers

Graduate Engineers/Scientists are required to work in our Information division based in London.

Responsible to the Directors, the work involves conducting patent/literature searches to establish novelty/state-of-the-art etc. of new inventions. The work is mostly computer-based, though you may occasionally need to visit specialist libraries.

Applicants should have a keen eye for detail, excellent English as fast reading comprehension of technical subjects is essential, and possess knowledge of written German (to at least GCSE level). Starting salary £20,000+ (commensurate with experience/qualifications).

New Business Development Manager

We are currently seeking a motivated and charismatic self-starter who will be responsible for sourcing new translation business for the Translation and Localisation Services department of the RWS Group’s Translation Division. The position will report directly to the Group’s Business Development Director and offers plenty of scope for an ambitious team player.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in new business translation sales within a small to medium size translation company. The candidate will have a focussed ‘hands on’ approach, with excellent written and oral communication skills. A knowledge of translation memory systems would be of advantage.

The role will involve achieving sales targets by:

• Identifying new translation business in companies with growth potential
• Forming relationships and proactively selling into those companies by phone and face-to-face contact
• Closing sales

Additional duties include:

• Attending meetings, trade shows and conferences as required
• Sourcing information for internal telemarketing and mailing resources

The candidate will receive:

• Technical support from the Department Manager
• Account management support from the Project Managers
• Marketing support
• Lead generation support
