Untethering the technician with disconnected mobile knowledge

S1000D technical publications for defense maintenance represents the institutional intelligence and ‘best practice’ knowledge for keeping complex military assets at a high state of readiness. This knowledge needs to be portable and fully capable at the point of need. Maintainers of military assets must not be limited to important supporting knowledge based on their ability to ‘get a signal’ or be on an IT network in order to access S1000D technical publications. These visual interactive knowledge sets, as represented in the interactive electronic technical publications (IETPs), are the kinds of expert assistance, guidance and instruction that is essential to returning assets to operational availability as quickly as possible.

Given the labor shortages, the ‘silver tsunami’ of retirements of knowledgeable maintainers and the numbers of new maintainers entering the military workforce, knowledge portability is a critical aspect of maintainer enablement. Having detailed diagnostics capabilities, safety guidelines and maintenance best practice information at your fingertips, is critical to optimizing maintenance response and restoration times.

Want your technicians to be able to pack up their iPad and respond anywhere, anytime, in any operating environments regardless of where in the world they find themselves? RWS has introduced LiveContent mobile for fully disconnected use on commercial iPads. The LiveContent mobile provides technical diagnostic, repair and maintenance information to the front-line maintainer for more accurate diagnosis, improved insights before dispatch and untethering critical knowledge to improve the mean time to repair (MTTR). The IETP can be deployed and utilized as an iOS native app allowing fully disconnected access on an iPad allowing the maintainer to take the knowledge to the asset (options for Android will follow Q1).

We will explore the capabilities of the disconnected iPad IETP as part of an AviationWeek FastChat webinar on Jan 27th at 11am to 11:30am EST. We will post the registration information after 1st of the year at www.rws.com/S1000D or drop us an email and we’ll be sure to get you included on the Aviation Week invite at askans1000dexpert@rws.com
