- The European Patent Organization (EPO) put together a list of highlights from 2013, including their 40th anniversary and progress on the unitary patent.
- WIPO had a record year in 2013, as the PCT experienced a growth rate of over 5% and for the first time more than 200,000 patent applications were filed in one year.
- According to the annual World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) report, China replaced Germany as the third largest country in patent filings.
- Patent filings at the EPO grew in 2013 to over 2.8% over the previous year. As EPO President Benoit Battistelli states, “Demand for patent prosectuion in Europe is up for the fourth consecutive year.”
