This week, inovia traveled to Houston, TX for two seminars presented by the PCT Learning Center. This organization gives patent professionals the tools and information to more proficiently navigate the Patent Cooperation Treaty (PCT). The seminars we attended this week, “PCT Boot Camp” and “Advanced PCT Seminar ” educated those who are just getting started with using the PCT to those who are experts in the field.
The first day, “PCT Boot Camp”, was a shorter course designed for patent professionals to get a more basic understanding of various PCT processes. The course was also beneficial to those individuals who wanted to refresh their skills. This event touched on the entire process of the PCT from filing the international application, to amendments under the PCT, and finally entering the national stage. This presentation also went into greater detail regarding PCT terminology and how to properly fill out forms (both on paper and electronically). This event was in preparation for the much more detailed presentation given on Day Two.
Carol Bidwell, US Consultant to WIPO on PCT matters and Gary Smith, Managing Director of the PCT Learning Center, spoke yesterday at the “Advanced PCT Seminar”. This course was geared more towards professionals who already have a solid understanding of the PCT process. This longer, more in-depth seminar focused on advanced topics including future developments and recent changes relating to the American Invents Act (AIA). We highly recommend this course for those individuals looking to understand what is in store for the future of the PCT and see what changes are currently being implemented to improve the organization as a whole.
