NEW updates to the underlying data in PatBase Analytics V2

No comments yet

At the end of 2017, RWS and Minesoft launched their new Analytics platform for PatBase, the online patent database. In a recent update, we have now improved the way that the underlying data is displayed and can be used to filter an analysis by almost any data, giving PatBase users more options for analysis and making it easier than ever to extract specific data.

Extended data tables

There are now 3 tabs containing underlying data when viewing the 2D sections of analysis (jurisdiction by assignee for example). Users can now inspect more of the original stored data that is being interpreted for the charts and graphs in Analytics V2.

The underlying data tables in PatBase Analytics have been extended with some layout changes to better fit the data. The 3 tabs are split into:

  • Paired Data: The number of the selected metric that has both of these entities related to it
  • Jurisdiction Totals (or whichever the first metric is, i.e. assignee, inventor etc.): Shows the absolute total for each jurisdiction – allowing users to see how we arrive at the two ordering options
  • Assignee Totals (or whichever the selected second metric happens to be): Shows the absolute total for the secondary metric

Locating families and sending back to PatBase

Our development team has made it easier to return searches to PatBase and accurately locate the families that are shown in the data tables. Users simply need to click the number of families to be given the option to be shown the families in a list, to analyse these families further in Analytics V2, or locate the families in PatBase.

Where possible, the search that is generated when sending the families back to PatBase has been improved by adding to the relevant search command, for example, by specifying the grant jurisdiction.

Running filtered analyses from the underlying data

The option to analyse families further using the underlying data is a new feature in Analytics V2, expanding on the functionality to filter by assignee, jurisdiction and date from the Dashboard. With the ability to interact with the original stored data, users can now quickly and easily filter their analyses by almost any data!

For example, if a user is looking into the Cybersecurity technology field, they could look at a specific assignee in the US, say IBM, and use this button to run a new analysis, then do the same process for IBM in China. Once we have these two analyses available, the user can utilize comparison features to investigate them further…

When taken as a package, this update to incorporate and interact with the underlying data in Analytics improves the clarity and visibility of the data, allowing a deeper and finer understanding of the data, making it easier for users to extract specific data.

PatBase mentioned in two recent reports

No comments yet

PatBase was recently mentioned as source for patent data in two reports,  “Nutrient management from biogas digester effluents: a bibliometric-based analysis of publications and patents” and « From rare to routine – medicines for rare diseases, vaccines and antibiotics ».

The first report was published in the International Journal of Environmental Science and Technology by Minesoft client IRSTEA, a French national research institute that focusses on agriculture and the environment. The second report was published by Marks & Clerk and reveals innovation trends in treatments for rare diseases and widespread conditions.

Data for both reports was provided by PatBase in conjunction with Minesoft.
