A leading plane manufacturer, Airbus, just released a patent application for a seating arrangement in which passengers stack atop one another (that’s right, on TOP of one another). A perk of the setup according to the airline is that some seats can be configured to lie flat. Talk about efficiency taken to another level.
In a written explanation, Airbus explained that the seating arrangement is suitable for use in an aircraft, as well as on trains and buses. Filed with the European Patent Office, the design is intended to make better use of the « substantially unused upper lobe of the aircraft fuselage. »
Fortunately for those with claustrophobia, this is still only a patent application and there are no production plans in place.
