Chinese Intellectual Property News – May 2012

Our friends at AFD China recently shared some news from the State Intellectual Property Office of China (SIPO):

  • The Office recently published a report stating that at the end of 2011, there were 2,740,000 valid patents in China, 84.1% of which were from domestic applicants.
  • SIPO is making strides to strengthen IP protection in China.  Ge Shu, director of SIPO’s Patent Examination Department, addressed representatives from more than 40 countries at a World IP Day event held in Beijing.  “It is a priority to improve the quality in processing applications through enhanced multi-departmental coordination and responding to feedback from outside (the government),” he said.  Read more >
  • China plans to enhance IPR creation capability.  By 2015, it is expected that filings of invention patents and international patents in emerging industries will be twice that of those filed in 2010.  Read more >
