Friday Foreign Filing Roundup

Good morning.  We are in the midst of a bitter cold streak of weather here in New York City.  We hope everyone is staying warm! As always, read below for the latest news in the foreign filing world for the week of January 20th:

  • The European Patent Office had a record year in 2013, with the number of patent filings received up 2.8%.
  • The federal court of Canada awarded over $10 million to Twentieth Century Fox Film Corporation for copyright infringement of The Simpsons and Family Guy television shows.
  • Bad news for rap mogul Jay-Z! He was recently named a defendant in a $600M lawsuit by an entrepreneur who claims he previously trademarked the name “Brooklyn Nets”.
