Here’s a look at the foreign filing/patent law news for the week of January 30, 2012:

  • China and Germany entered into a new Patent Prosecution Highway (PPH) program, effective January 23.
  • Here’s something that resonates with us: law firms are exploring alternate billing arrangements.  The article references a December survey from The American Lawyer that found 92 percent of respondents used flat fees for at least one matter in 2011.
  • As revealed in their IPO filing on Wednesday, Facebook ended 2011 with 56 patents and 503 patent applications filed in the U.S., along with 33 patents and 149 patent applications filed internationally, and feel that their future success depends on their ability to protect their core technology.  Read more from the Los Angeles Times.
