Global IP Outsourcing & AUTM 2014 Conferences Prove Valuable

The Legal Process Outsourcing (LPO) industry is growing rapidly. Last week, Susanne Kennedy and Chris Karel attended the Global Outsourcing Association of Lawyers (GOAL) conference in San Francisco. One of the sessions, “Debunking Perceived Obstacles in Off-Shore IP Resources”, dealt with common misconceptions involving outsourced legal support services. During the session, Gregory Wilkinson from ACT1 Group brought up the importance of creating a good partnership with LPO’s and explained how companies should invest as much time finding the right LPO as they do in choosing outside counsel.

Asking the outsourcing companies for references can be a good solution when choosing between the many options on the market today. Another important topic discussed was how LPO’s handle confidential documents. Setting up a conference would be a good first step when evaluating the different LPO’s and finding one that fits your needs.

The Association of University Technology Managers (AUTM) annual meeting was also held in San Francisco last week. Susanne and Chris joined more than 2000 attendees from universities and research companies worldwide to network, learn, and trade best practices. Many stopped by the inovia booth to learn more about how tech transfer offices benefit from working with a foreign filing provider.  The AUTM conference is always a great opportunity to network with various academic institutions all at the same time.
