On Wednesday 20 June, we were pleased to attend and sponsor NEPIC’s Meet The Members Conference & Exhibition. With a focus on project updates and networking, this annual event is attended by investors, manufacturers and suppliers from across North East England’s chemical-processing sector.
There are more than 1,400 companies directly involved or in the supply chain of chemistry-using industries in the region, generating £26 billion of annual sales. Together they employ 190,000 people and the sector exports £12 billion each year; making the North East the only net exporting region in the UK. The NEPIC membership organization plays a key role in encouraging connectedness and collaboration within the industry.
RWS’s strong connection to the North East of England’s processing industry dates back to 1994 when The Language Service was established in a management buyout of the languages department of ICI plc. The Language Service was later acquired by Eclipse Translations which was itself acquired by RWS in 2005.
Following the rebrand of our Alnwick Office, Eclipse Translations, to RWS Language Solutions in January, the event was a great opportunity to showcase our new look and feel with our fellow NEPIC members, existing clients and new contacts. There were insightful sessions and speakers from PX Group, SABIC, Quorn Foods, Sembcorp Industries Ltd, FUJIFILM Diosynth Biotechnologies and many others, all touching upon the challenges ahead and how to secure growth in the sector.
A common theme across the presentations was a focus on developing new environmentally friendly products that support both human and environmental health and wellbeing. Several companies that we spoke to are focusing on research and development in this area to help them compete in a rapidly changing market.
Importantly, as stakeholders across the supply chain start collaborating, they must be able to understand each other in order to develop the most innovative solutions. At RWS, we facilitate and optimize communications between global stakeholders with our suite of translation and interpreting services. If one team is completing a feasibility study, you need this information available for teams elsewhere in the world to digest in their native language. Similarly, when all teams come together to discuss next steps, they need to be able to communicate seamlessly, regardless of language. With our highly qualified in-house linguists and network of freelancers, we provide extensive subject area coverage in over 150 language combinations and have the capacity and flexibility to accommodate large volume and urgent requests.
But language support does not stop there. Once a product has been developed, we help chemical companies reduce the cost and complexity of regulation by providing innovative language solutions for regulatory and operational documentation, and promote the industry and its exports, including the development of sales and marketing communications for priority and growth markets.
