* Power of attorney forms must be notarized and legalized via either the Apostille procedure or at an Ecuadorian consulate in your home country. The consulate will provide instructions on the procedure that is required; note that costs will be incurred for this. If the power of attorney is issued for a company, the notary public must not only certify the authenticity of the signature, but also confirm that the signatories are legally capable of doing so.

** In some cases assignments are required if the declaration as provided in rule 4.17 is not available on WIPO and if no assignment document was submitted when filing the application, the Ecuadorian PTO will request such assignment document to be submitted after filing the patent application by means of an office action. This assignment has to be signed by the inventors, certified by notary public and legalized by means of an Apostille.

*** An amendment to reduce the claims may be submitted. Any amendments made will incur additional translation costs.
