EP Validation

EP Validation (European Patent Validation) is the process of confirming the legal effect of a granted European patent (EP) in individual member states of the European Patent Convention (EPC). It ensures that the patent becomes enforceable at the national level once granted by the EPO.

Description

When the European Patent Office grants a patent, it does not automatically apply across all EPC countries. The patent holder must validate the granted patent in each desired country within a defined timeframe, typically three months from publication.

The EP Validation process usually involves submitting translations of the patent claims or full text (depending on the country’s requirements), paying national fees and meeting local formalities. This process is crucial for maintaining patent protection, as failure to validate can result in loss of rights in specific jurisdictions. RWS supports patent owners, law firms and corporations in managing EP validation efficiently through centralized coordination, high-quality patent translation and end-to-end filing support. Our combination of in-market expertise and secure workflow management ensures accuracy, compliance and cost control across all validated countries.
