Pre-translation
Description
In pre-translation, CAT tools (Computer-assisted translation) such as Trados automatically analyze source files against existing translation memories and integrated machine translation engines. Exact and fuzzy matching segments are inserted into the target segments, and any untranslated content can be populated using Language Weaver or other MT systems.
This early automation ensures that linguists start with pre-filled segments instead of a blank page, saving time and improving consistency. Reviewers can then focus on validation, style and accuracy rather than repetitive work. Pre-translation is particularly useful in large or recurring projects – marketing campaigns, software strings or technical documentation – where maintaining terminology consistency and leveraging past translations are essential.
