Proofreading

While editing focuses on meaning, style and terminology, proofreading is the final quality check. It acts as a safety net to catch any objective errors that may have been missed during translation or introduced during layout and formatting (DTP).

In a professional localization workflow, proofreading is typically performed by a linguist who is a native speaker of the target language. They review the content for typos, double spaces, capitalization inconsistencies and punctuation errors. For printed materials or high-visibility digital assets, proofreading also involves checking visual elements – ensuring that line breaks are correct, fonts are consistent and text hasn’t been corrupted.
