TMX file format
Description
TMX is designed to make translation memories interoperable. Each file contains translation units – pairs of source and target text segments – that store previously translated content. When imported into another tool, these segments can be reused automatically, reducing duplication and improving translation efficiency.
The format supports multilingual data exchange, metadata tagging and version control, making it essential for large-scale localization workflows. TMX files are particularly useful when teams, vendors or clients use different tools but need to share linguistic assets securely and consistently. At RWS, TMX is a key component of our localization technology ecosystem, powered by Trados and Language Weaver. It allows teams to maintain linguistic integrity and efficiency across platforms.
