Workflow step

A workflow step is an individual stage within a translation or localization process. Each step represents a defined task – such as translation, editing, review or Quality assurance – that contributes to the delivery of accurate, high-quality multilingual content.

Description

Localization workflows are built from a sequence of steps designed to move content efficiently from source to final delivery. Typical workflow steps include file preparation, translation, linguistic review, Desktop publishing (DTP) and final QA.

Each step can involve different roles, technologies or levels of automation. For example, a review step may be completed by a linguist, a subject-matter expert or an automated quality system. When managed effectively, workflow steps form a consistent, repeatable process that supports scalability and reliability across projects. At RWS, workflow steps are defined and automated within integrated systems such as Trados and Language Weaver. This combination of human expertise and intelligent automation ensures that every task – from initial analysis to final delivery – is traceable, efficient and aligned with client expectations.
