RWS launches a certification course on prompt design: A game-changer for linguists in the AI era

Linguistic AI is no longer a distant future – it's already transforming the language industry and the way translators work. This makes it essential for vendors and freelance translators to upskill and stay updated, especially in understanding how to work with AI and large language models (LLMs).
As gaining new knowledge in these areas becomes critical to remaining competitive, RWS has released a free online certification training on Linguistic Prompt Design available to anyone interested in learning about linguistic AI. The course is primarily targeted at linguists but is useful to anyone who is curious about LLMs, regardless of their field of work.
The course contains three comprehensive parts, covering the fundamentals of AI in linguistic tasks, the intricacies of crafting and customizing effective prompts, and advanced strategies for fine-tuning AI outputs. The parts are structured in small, bite-sized sections, enabling busy professionals to learn at their own pace. Each part ends with a self-assessment quiz to reinforce understanding and ensure the retention of the material. Upon the successful completion a final knowledge test, participants earn a certificate as evidence for their expertise in prompt engineering.
"The recent advancements in AI have made prompt design an essential skill for linguists," says Marina Pantcheva, Director of Linguistic AI Services at RWS. "Our course blends theoretical knowledge, practical insights, and technical guidance to help professionals master prompt design and transform their interaction with language through AI."
Developed by the RWS Linguistic AI Services team, the course reflects the company’s commitment to AI research and knowledge sharing. By offering this certification, RWS aims to empower linguists and other professionals to enhance their productivity, efficiency and enjoyment in their work through the effective use of AI.
