DITA Maps
Description
A DITA map serves as the roadmap for your documentation. It specifies which DITA topics belong in a publication, how they relate to each other and how users will navigate between them.
The map defines order and hierarchy, provides contextual links and supports conditional publishing – allowing authors to generate different document variations for distinct audiences or products. DITA maps make it possible to reuse the same topics across multiple outputs, simplifying updates and ensuring consistent, structured content delivery.
Example use cases
- Organization: Organizing reusable topics into structured deliverables.
- Navigation: Creating navigation paths and contextual links between related content.
- Variants: Generating multiple publication versions from a single content source.
- Automation: Automating updates across product variants or document types.
