RWS Language Weaver is proud to announce its sponsorship of the Machine Translation Summit 2021. The MT Summit, hosted virtually by AMTA (American Machine Translation Association), is taking place from virtually on August 16-20.
The biennial MT Summit brings together the American, Asian-Pacific, and European branches of the International Association for Machine Translation, creating an invaluable opportunity to discuss the issues of the day with a truly global gathering of MT researchers, developers, providers, and users.
The conference is run in three tracks: Research, Users, and Government. Language Weaver, with its long history in the sector, is proud to directly sponsor the Government track this year. As sponsor, we will also be exhibiting virtually on August 18 from 15:40 to 16:00 showing demos of our leading translation platform.
In addition to the sponsorship, we will also have two presentations in the User track over the course of the event. The first presentation on Data-Driven MT Adoption will be delivered jointly with our clients from Santander Bank, while the second presentation will cover our work in developing MT for low-resourced languages as part of the PRINCIPLE project. More details, including times and dates for the presentations, can be found below.
Many members of our newly expanded scientific research team will also be attending the event to keep up to date with the latest goings on in the field. There are a number of networking sessions across the 4 days so there will be ample opportunity to connect and chat with the team on our work and life at Language Weaver in general.
Don't miss us at the event

Title: Data driven MT adoption
Abstract:
This session will explore how a customer has increased their productivity with no new translators, and provided business user with MT 24/7 - even during Covid and throughout the rise of working from home (WFH). Attendees will learn how to avoid some of the common pitfalls in adopting MT and about the customer's lessons learned along the way. The big take away is how to keep the MT high-quality and secure, whilst meeting the very different needs of a translation team and business users spread across functions and departments.

Title: Building MT systems for public sector users in Croatia, Iceland, Ireland, and Norway
Abstract:
When developing machine translation engines, low resourced language pairs tend to be in a disadvantaged position: less available data means that developing robust MT models can be more challenging. The EU-funded PRINCIPLE project aims to overcome this challenge for four low resourced European languages: Norwegian, Croatian, Irish and Icelandic. This presentation will give an overview of the project, with a focus on the set of public sector users and their use cases for which we have developed MT solutions. We will discuss the range of language resources that have been gathered through contributions from public sector collaborators, and present the extensive evaluations that have been undertaken, including significant user evaluation of MT systems across all of the public sector participants in each of the four countries involved.
